introduction
The magical fauna of the deep forest is an intrigue to many, casual adventurers and powerful leaders alike. The true expert on the subject, however, is the ancient sirenian botanist Olyndra, residing in the heart of Liren in a house accompanied by the most breathtaking of gardens. Her knowledge of the Springwoods flora is unparalleled, accumulated over millennia of study and morbid experimentation. She has uncovered the magical properties that can be drawn out from every plant and flower; which ones can strengthen, poison, or kill. But her curiosity runs deeper than just the magic in the flowers alone; after all, where do the boundaries between lifeforms truly lie? Are flowers and people not both capable of flourishing, causing harm, suffering themselves? Humanity's insistence on keeping itself separate from the rest of nature is almost amusing to her, and she has dedicated her life to a form of art she considers preservation.
Lifeforms can hold magical capabilities, emotion, and memories alike, and those with more interesting qualities also present themselves as the most beautiful individuals, both inside and out. This perspective led Olyndra down a path of experimentation to learn how to preserve fragments of a person within the flowers of her garden. It started small, with magical infusions and alterations found in the forest's embrace. Then, animals. People. Those of lesser strength at first, easily manipulated and broken - but as she slowly grew more capable, she would seek out individuals who were interesting to her - those who would make for the most intricate and gorgeous flowers. After all, human life is immeasurably short, and letting the beauty of fascinating individuals wither so quickly is a waste when their beauty can be extended and immortalized under her touch. To be eternalized in her garden is, to Olyndra, the highest praise and compliment; whether those being transformed are capable of seeing this is a secondary concern.
Despite being deathly dangerous, her unparalleled knowledge cannot be denied; tales are told of the botanist who can achieve anything using the properties in the lifeforms found around her. And on occasion, those in the most desperate of times, with nothing left to lose, may still seek her out for advice and guidance; their fear and precautions are often laughed at by the siren. She does not understand why people are frightened of her - to become immortalized in her garden should be something people strive for. But it does not matter. Those desperate enough to dare seek out her help are never interesting enough to be worthy of it anyway.
